Precision rifle/Sniper I

Outline: The course is designed for personnel with minimal or no experience with a scoped weapon, and is a combination of classroom theory, practical field and live fire applications. It will give the student shooter a solid foundation of precision rifle/sniper skills to take back to their department or unit.

Objective: At the end of this course the student will be able to set up their own precision rifle/sniper weapon system, zero the scope to the rifle, shoot with either iron sights or optics, be able to judge the distance to a target, successfully read the winds to effectively engage the target, and engage to the limits of whichever range we are running the training evolution on.

Weapon maintenance & care

Sniper equipment

Ballistics

Marksmanship principles

Sniper log book

Sniper range card

Spotting methods

Using an Anemometer

Applying corrections (elevation and windage)

Methods of judging distance

Methods of observation, aids, and procedures

Engaging moving targets

Supported and unsupported shooting positions

Requirements: Ear and eye protection; Sniper Weapon System (bolt action or semi-auto, .308 or ..338 Lapua are recommended) including scope (mil-dot reticule/reticle pattern is recommended); 300rds match-grade ammunition; a bipod mount for the weapon (Harris is recommended); 2 point sling (Ares Huskey Amentum Slider Sling is recommended); tripod mounted spotting scope (w/ variable zoom settings & a reticle pattern is recommended); shooters mat for prone position shooting; shooting bag/bean bag; drag bag; anemometer (Kestrel 3000 or equivalent recommended); calculator; appropriate weapon cleaning kit; backpack or equipment bag; range clothing appropriate to the season (including rain gear – we shoot rain or shine); sunscreen; insect repellant; knee and elbow pads (optional); water bottle or hydration device; and, an open mind.

Cost: $900. per person for 6 – 8 hours
